This is a large damask in the Louis XV style depicting a tree of life of Eastern inspiration. The refined motif of flowers with delicately curled petals and foliage gracefully attached to a climbing branch shows how the elegance of the court influenced the decorative arts of this period. The beauty of the colours explodes in strong tones of ruby, gold, amethyst, bronze and more subtle shades of nattier, puce... with an almost metallic reflective quality.
