The colour

A percale printed with a motif of winding stems bearing leaves, flowers and exotic fruit. This so-called « Indian » motif was inspired by both new exotic plants and real Indian fabric introduced into Europe in the 18th Century. Typical of block prints produced in Jouy, Rouen and other printing centres, these fabrics were very popular in the 1780s. They continued to be produced until the early 19th century.
