Première Lumière

Within the gesture of the wood sculptor lies an essential force: that of the gouge as it cuts into the material, carving it away to reveal its deepest nuances.

From this intention was born “PREMIÈRE LUMIÈRE”, a rug collection imagined by Maison Lelièvre in collaboration with architect and designer Julie Fuillet. Inspired by the transformation of material and the power of artisanal craftsmanship, this creation explores a subtle dialogue between savoir-faire, texture, relief, and light.

The pattern is composed of horizontal layers and tapered forms that overlap and unfold, evoking the marks left by the tool in the wood. With each movement of the gouge, the material is revealed: the low-pile wool emerges within the carved grooves, while Tencel captures the light along the raised edges of the relief.

From this design, two rugs are born:

APPARITION fully reveals the sculptor’s gesture. The reliefs become more pronounced, and the contrast between the untouched surface and the carved grooves is intensified, offering a bold and expressive interpretation of the pattern.

ESTOMPE, by contrast, evokes the wood before the intervention of the hand. The motif remains subtle, almost hidden within the material. It is only revealed as light moves across the surface, gently unveiling the nuances of its relief.

Three colour harmonies accompany the collection, like three distinct moments of light:

- NOX, a nocturnal glow, combining deep violet and amber.

- LUX, a radiant light, blending sand and gold tones.

- ALBA, the clarity of dawn, expressed through shades of white and linen.
